WHAT IS DRY NEEDLING?

Dry Needling is a treatment in which a thin filament needle such as those used in acupuncture, is inserted into the muscle directly at a trigger point. These needles are used to increase muscle relaxation and decrease pain. Dry Needling may be used by your Osteopath or physiotherapist to assist in achieving better results in your treatment.

How is it performed?

Fine (sterile / single use) needles are tapped virtually painlessly into the skin. The needles may be left in the muscle for a few seconds and up to 10 minutes.

Extensive research has shown stimulation of very fine nerve endings provides both a local pain blocking effect and also changes in blood chemistry due to the release of pain relieving hormones from the brain, which reduces pain and may influence healing. The insertion of needles into tight muscles also has a local relaxation effect.
